VIDEO CONFERENCING ENHANCES APPEAL PROCESS
On August 9, 2007 CAP participated in an Informal Administrative Review (IAR) with a client seeking job placement assistance from the Erie District Office of OVR. While this may sound like nothing new, it was really quite different because CAP never left Philadelphia, and the client never left his hometown of Erie, PA. How could this be, you might ask? OVR's new video conferencing equipment made it all possible. Both the Philadelphia District Office and the Erie District Office have this equipment. Other District Offices including Pittsburgh and Washington also have the equipment and the capability to connect several offices at the same time. Video adds a new aspect to the IAR process, making it more personal. Unlike traditional telephone conferencing, the video allows everyone to pick up on cues like body language and facial expression. It also creates an environment that aids the parties in moving toward a resolution because you really feel like you are all in the same room because everyone is able to see each other during the discussion. With the help of this technology, the parties had a productive session and were able to resolve the concern. CAP looks forward to more video sessions in the future.
