announces free tax service for veterans
Rep. Stephen E. Barrar (R-Chester/Delaware) announced
today that the Pennsylvania Veterans Museum is offering
free tax preparation services to 150 area veterans.
"Filing taxes can be a stressful and confusing activity,
but for 150 local veterans, the process will be
simplified by the Pennsylvania Veterans Museum," said
Barrar. "I applaud the museum for offering this service,
and I encourage eligible veterans to apply."
To be eligible for the free service, one must be a
Pennsylvania veteran earning less than $75,000 in annual
income with no business or real estate investments.
To apply for assistance, call the museum at
610-566-5196. There are only 150 slots available on a
first-come, first-served basis. Those approved for the
program will be notified, and asked to complete and
return a program application before March 13.

Those chosen to participate in the service will be
required to provide the following documentation for tax
preparation:
· Proof of identification
· W-2 forms
· 1099 forms
· Last year's tax return
· Mortgage related interest and expenses
· List of non-reimbursed work-related expenses
· List of non-reimbursed volunteer work expenses
· Settlement sheet HUD 1 for purchase of a new home
· Dealer invoice for purchases of a new or hybrid car
· Amount paid for medical insurance premiums and
receipts for medical expenses
· Gifts to charities or non-profits (Donations of $250
or more require written acknowledgement from the
recipients. Non-cash contributions of $500 or more
require Form 8283.)
· Bills for home energy improvements (new hot water
heater, new furnace, new roof, energy-efficient windows,
insulation, etc.)
The Pennsylvania Veterans Museum is located at 12 East
State Street in Media. It is open from noon to 5 p.m.,
Thursday through Sunday.
All Pennsylvania income taxes must be filed by April 15,
and forms are available at
http://revenue.state.pa.us.
