GOVERNOR'S ADVISORY COMMITTEE FOR PEOPLE WITH DISABILITIES

Steve Pennington has been appointed to represent the Client Assistance Program on the Governor's Advisory Committee for People with Disabilities. This group advises the Governor's Cabinet on People with Disabilities. The group will meet in April 2008.

 

OVR WORKGROUPS ON HOME MODIFICATIONS AND VEHICLE MODIFICATIONS POLICIES
 

Steve Pennington and Jamie Ray have been named to two OVR workgroups which will review and make proposed revisions to OVR's current policies concerning home and vehicle modifications. Meetings of these workgroups will begin in October 2006.
 

CAP ADVISORY COMMITTEE
 

Jamie Ray has been named to the CAP Advisory Committee sponsored by the National Disability Rights Network (NDRN, formerly NAPAS).  The purpose of the Committee is to advise NDRN on the training and technical assistance needs of CAPs across the country.

 

DISABLED WAR VETERANS VOCATIONAL RETRAINING PROJECT


CAP Advocate Lee Lippi is part of this new project made up of disability advocates, vocational rehabilitation counselors and staff, local legislators, government officials and others who focus on the unique vocational rehabilitation needs of Veterans with Disabilities.  CAP helped to initiate this project with support from OVR and the Secretary of Labor and Industry.

 

31ST INSTITUTE ON REHABILITATION ISSUES

 

CAP Managing Attorney Jamie Ray has been selected by the Rehabilitation Services Administration (RSA) to participate in this IRI study group titled, “Leading and Managing Change in Public Vocational Rehabilitation”. Ms. Ray will be part of a group presenting the IRI’s work in Washington DC during May 2005.
 

CAP Challenges OVR Policy on Student Merit Scholarships


CAP is challenging current OVR/BBVS policy which allows VR counselors to consider an individual's merit based scholarship award when determining the agency's financial contribution toward college or higher education. Governor's Committee on Employment of People with Disabilities

 

Attorney Jamie Ray has been appointed to the Governor's Committee on Employment of People with Disabilities.  The Committee works to remove barriers in the community and improve the employment of persons with disabilities in Pennsylvania.


Multicultural Advisory Committee


 
Advocate Lee Lippi has recently been appointed to represent CAP on OVR's Multicultural Advisory Committee (MAC).  The Committee meets quarterly to address the needs of traditionally unserved or underserved individuals who seek vocational rehabilitation services.
 

Delaware Valley Regional Planning Commission

 

Attorney Steve Pennington is a member of the “Environmental Justice” Task Force established by the Delaware Valley Regional Planning Commission. His focus is discrimination against persons with disabilities in public housing.

 

Reauthorization of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973

 

Attorney Steve Pennington and Attorney Jamie Ray are coordinating efforts by CAP's throughout the country to review Title I of the Rehabilitation Act of l973 in anticipation of the Act’s reauthorization by Congress this year. Attorney Jamie Ray is coordinating these efforts for the Pennsylvania Rehabilitation Council, where she serves as vice-chairperson and a representative of CAP.

 

RSA Workgroup on Vocational Rehabilitation and Persons with Mental Illness

 

Attorney Steve Pennington is participating on a RSA workgroup addressing barriers that face persons with mental illness in the public vocational rehabilitation process.

 

SILC Independence

 

CDLP is co-counsel with the law firm of Williams, Cuker and Berezofsky in a lawsuit brought against the Pennsylvania Office of Vocational Rehabilitation to compel it to comply with the requirements of Title VII of the Rehabilitation Act.
